The gap in final results announced by IEBC in the August 8 poll for the Trans Nzoia Senatorial results has reduced by almost half.
This is after a vote recount in 11 polling stations and re-tally of all the results in forms 34B and C ordered by the Eldoret High court in December.
In the report on the scrutiny and vote recount that was submitted in the Eldoret High court on Tuesday, the figures indicated that Senator Michael Mbito garnered 71,456 votes against former Senator Henry Ole Ndiema who had 71,182, a gap of about 274 votes.
This is contrary to the official results announced by IEBC where Mbito was declared the winner with 71,471 votes against Ole Ndiema's 70,846 votes, a difference of about 625 votes.
"I've not seen the whole report but basically, it raises very weighty issues on the credibility of the election process," one of the lawyers representing former Senator who is the petitioner in the case told journalists outside the Eldoret High court on Tuesday.
Parties in the case will be giving submissions on the report on January 30 before a date for the ruling in the case is set.
Former Senator Henry Ole Ndiema of Ford Kenya filed the case seeking nullification of results in which Mbito of Jubilee won.He argues that the election process of marred with massive irregularities and illegalities.
