An audit has come up with gut--wrenching revelations that Huruma Estate is dotted with the majority of unsafe houses in Nairobi that could potentially collapse.
The audit by the city's buildings inspectorate showed many houses in Nairobi are unsafe to live in with Huruma Estate taking the lion share of unsafe houses.
''We visually identified 651 unsafe buildings in the country that required scientific testing. 640 houses are in Nairobi. So far we have tested 28 buildings.'' Moses Nyakiongora, the secretary of the Buildings Inspectorate, said according the The Standard.
Out of the 28 buildings that were tested, 15 were found to be structurally problematic. and nine were in dire need of repairs before occupation.
Nyakiongora revealed that the demolition of unsound structures was supposed to start early this year but it was shelved over security issues.
