Residents in Mombasa have a reason to smile after Uber Kenya declared fare reduction in the coastal city.
Speaking during an event held at English Point Marina in Mombasa, Kagure Wamunyu, who is the head of operations, said the service provider opted to reduce the fare to make them affordable, in a bid to attract both residents and tourists.
“We want to make sure that uberX is one of the most affordable ways to get around all day, every day. So, as of today, October 27, we’re lowering uberX prices in Mombasa,” said Wamuyu.
Ms Wamunyu also noted that ordinary commuters, entrepreneurs and tourists are going to pay less when it comes to transport in the region.
“Whether you are commuting to and from work, running quick errands, or just meeting friends, with these new rates you can Uber further and for less,” she said.
Started in 2009, the mobile application has greatly transformed the lives of many Kenyans as far as transport is concerned.
According to the Nation, the base rates have been lowered from Sh80 to Sh50, charges per minute lowered from Sh5 to Sh3, while the prize for every kilometer has been reduced from Sh50 to Sh35.
The cancellation fee has been cut from Sh200 to Sh150 whereas the least rate for a single service has been lowered to Sh200.
The company believes that the reduction in the fares is a reprieve to those using personal cars.
