Speaking through his official Twitter account on Friday, Ndubai said the conclusion was made after further pleas from the public and added that it will be operational immediately.

"Following further plea from wananchi, starting tomorrow, commuters will pay a flat rate of Sh20 on @NYS_Ke buses. This will further alleviate the plight faced by commuters in Nairobi. The NYS had set Ksh 50 as their initial price but has now reduced to Sh20 effective Saturday, March 24," Ndubi tweeted.

NYS has already deployed 27 buses to ease commuting crisis within Nairobi occasioned by the ongoing heavy rains.

Commuters will enjoy this new flat rate irrespective of the distance.

These routes includes Kibera, Githurai, Mwiki, Mukuru kwa Njenga, Dandora, Kariobangi and Kawangware.

"NYS will aid transportation during this rainy season when bus fare is inflated. The routes that will benefit from this starting tomorrow are Kibera, Githurai, Mwiki, Dandora, Kariobangi, Kawangware and Mukuru Kwa Njenga, " twit Ndubi.

While this programme is set to bring in more buses on board to cover more routes in future, they will only be functional during peak hours.

This is a major reprieve for Nairobians who have in the past been suffering from fluctuations of fares by Public Service Vehicles depending on whether changes.
