It is a sigh of relief for the Council of Governors (CoG) chairman and Kisumu governor, Jack Ranguma.
This after the High Court, Monday, dismissed a case seeking to bar the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) from clearing him to seek re-election in the August 8 polls as an independent candidate.
Justice George Odunga said that he has no authority to hear and decide the case. He noted such matters were mandated by the electoral body.
Ranguma was sued by a Kisumu voter, Gordon Okello, who wanted to have the court stop IEBC from clearing the governor as an independent candidate.
He claimed the governor had not resigned as an active member of ODM.
Ranguma was defeated by senator Anyang’ Nyong’o during the ODM Kisumu gubernatorial primaries.
