Ugatuzi na Kazi programme workers who were suspended by the county government have a reason to smile again after the Garissa Governor Ali Korane promised them new jobs.

According to The Star, Korane has said that he is consulting with the youth ministry to have the workers hired in order for them to continue earning income to pay their bills.

Speaking at the county, Korane said that all the constituencies in the county except for Garissa Township will be recruiting around 900 youths for different posts. He also said that those who stand to benefit from the new programme are aged between 18 and 35 years.

The new development will benefit youths who hail from different constituencies including Ijara, Balambala, Lagdera, Dadaab and Fafi.

The programme, which was initiated by former Governor Nathif Jama of Wiper, was suspended after the new governor said that his administration will not manage to sustain the same over years.

The programme had offered jobs to 1,530 casual labourers who majorly hailed from poverty-stricken families in the county.

The governor had said that the programme was founded without consideration to the legal framework in relation to the budgetary allocation. The suspension of the programme saw workers taking to the streets in protest against the move.
