[Governor Nathif Jama (R) joins dancers during one his meetings in Garissa town. He has received backing from the Reh Mehjecle clan.] (the-star.co.ke)Elders from the Rer Mehjecle clan in Garissa have reinforced their support for Governor Nathif Jama.
The elders who met the governor in Garissa town joined their counterparts from Abduwak community in supporting Jama’s reelection in August 8.
Clan politics plays a primary role in guaranteeing someone’s success in elections in the North Eastern counties of Garissa, Mandera, Wajir and Marsabit.
Jama who spoke at the event lauded the elders for supporting his bid for a second term.
“The elders have unanimously agreed to constitute a campaign team for me and my deputy to continually defend the inclusive government we already have,” he told journalists after the event.
“We discussed a range of development issues affecting Garissa County,” he added.
The meeting took place three months after Jama met members of the Adan Gari sub clan who also threw their support for him.
Jama has a challenging reelection bid following the entrance of Bashir Haji into the race for the coveted county seat.
Bashir who has continuously criticised Jama over his ‘poor’ development record is the brother to Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji.
“As a county, we are yet to reap the fruits of devolution like we are witnessing in some counties, which have succeeded in changing the lives of their people,” Haji recently said.
“This is a result of poor leadership.”
