A Nakuru lobby group is seeking to present a petition to the county assembly requiring them to build a rescue center for street children.
Ladder of Hope Chairman Samuel Karanja said they were collecting signatures seeking to present them to the assembly where they would request them to purchase and construct the center that will host at least 1000 street boys.
The CBO deals with issues regarding the boy child in the country.
“In the country we currently have at least 2000 street children so two centers will be enough,” he added.
Karanja was speaking in Nakuru on Thursday where he added that the government should come up with strategies to ensure that all the children were rehabilitated and taught at least one skill.
“They need to be taught basic survival courses like carpentry, woodwork, art and even cookery and this will enable them to survive after the training. This will ensure that they not only become productive members of the society but also give back to us the services we need,” he added.
“We have been attempting to reach out to them for counseling, but we need experts to come and help them get rid of the habits,” he added.
