Kibera residents have accused the Nairobi County government of doing little to avert the recent floods that affected different parts of Nairobi.
The residents on Monday said that the county government was aware of areas that were likely to be affected by floods but did not bother to act upon the situation on time.
"Last year when we had the El Nino rains, the county government was aware of the affected places and even went ahead to set aside funds to curb floods. This issue of Nairobi floods should be a thing of the past," said Marion Gati.
The residents said that it is unfortunate that they might face the wrath of Mother Nature again considering the weatherman had earlier warned that Nairobi will experience more rains.
"We are told that rain is coming and this period is short for any preparations to be done so we can do nothing apart from pray that we are not caught up in the floods," said Paul Omollo.
A number of residents expressed their fears about a possible disease outbreak in the course of the floods considering the informal settlements and poor sanitation.
"It is very unfortunate that people are still losing their lives while a lot of property is being destroyed by floods yet by now, we should have learned how to prepare and alleviate any possible disaster," said Chis Kanana.
