Residents of Nakuru county have accused the Geothermal Development Company (GDC) and the Kenya Electricity Generating company limited (KenGen) for sidelining locals during hiring of staff.
Speaking before the parliamentary committee on Energy, the residents said that the two companies have been sourcing for most of their staff from Nairobi despite the availability of a huge workforce locally.
Nakuru assembly Majority Leader Stanley Karanja said that only a few locals have been absorbed to take up casual jobs while the top management positions are reserved for people from Nairobi.
During the hearing it was revealed that no local person seats in the boards of the two important institutions operating within the county.
Parliamentary energy committee chairman David Gikaria called on the local leadership to take up the matter and push for more appointments in the two companies.
