The outcry follows the arrest of a man identified as James Karanja who was allegedly arrested on Tuesday night last week by KWS officers in Njoro whose his whereabouts are not yet known.

According to Mary Karanja; wife of the missing man, the men came at night and rightfully identified themselves as KWS officers.

“They knocked the door and when I asked who they were, they said they are the 'government'. I lit the lamp but I did not open as I didn't know whether they were thieves,” said Karanja at her homestead yesterday.

Karanja said that they insisted on carrying out a search the house but she refused prompting them to break the door.

“When I refused completely, they broke in and the one with the whole uniform showed me his job ID,” she added.

She stated that she called her husband who was asleep to come over when she identified who they were.

“Police have called the KWS bosses here but they say they don't have such a person,” she added.

KWS Rift Valley Assistant Director has however denied any involvement by his officers.
