Nakuru county residents are now threatening to impeach their Women Representative, Mary Mbugua, citing that she is doing nothing to fight for their rights.
Women in the area claim that she disappeared once she was elected. Adressing women meeting at Nyayo gradens, Brigit Ng’angira a Nakuru resident said that her failure to participate in the first lady’s marathon is a sign that she is not interested in womens right.
“She never even made a technical appearance yet the county is one which suffers greatly from maternal deaths. Even the governors wife Lucia Kinuthia participated yet she was not elected by anyone,” said Ng’angira.
Ng’ang’ira pointed out that the women Representative had never raised the issue of Female Genital Mutilation and Early marriages which affects residents.
They cited that she was only elected on the basis of her popularity which was not benefiting them. Caroline Wangui said that Mbugua has not even approached any of the women group seeking to know the issues affecting them.
“She disappeared immediately she was elected. We suspect she lives in Nairobi and she never even came to thank the voters,” said Wangui.
She further accused her of being in accessible.
