Mueni observed that cancer has been on the rise over the last few years, attributing the situation to the changing way of living.

''I am calling on both men and women to have regular tests to allow for early diagnosis of the disease to facilitate treatment,'' she said.

Mueni advised women to attend pre-natal clinics, at least, four times during their pregnancy to improve both their health and that of their unborn babies.

Mueni pointed out the essence of equipping hospitals with medicine and equipment facilities citing that with better structures, better services are offered.

She called on the county government to initiate a renal dialysis service at Igegania Hospital, which is the only big hospital in the area citing that residents are forced to move to Thika Level 5 hospitals for such services.

''The department of health and emergency services is working with medical training colleges so that young practitioners in the health sector can bring in their expertise here as well as help in the delivery of the much needed efficient services in hospitals during their internships,'' she said.

She was speaking from Igegania Hospital on Tuesday, where she held a meeting with the hospital management.
