Machakos residents have been urged to fully embrace Nyumba Kumi Initiative to boost the fight against crime.
Addressing a public baraza on Thursday, Kiima Kimwe location Chief Alice Nzisa said that though crime has generally gone down, residents should not abandon the Nyumba Kumi security Initiative.
The chief said that more security measures are being deliberated upon with the aim of making Machakos a free crime zone.
“Our appeal to residents is make sure that they know their neighbours,” said Nzisa.
Nzisa further urged residents to be on the lookout and report suspicious characters and events.
She said security is a responsibility of every citizen and not the law enforcers alone. She expressed her willingness to work with other security officials.
“My office is ready to work with any other likeminded people to make Machakos a better place,” said Nzisa.
She asked village elders and youth leaders to help them in ensuring law and order.
“The role of elders and youth is important and they should use their forums to preach peace and unity,” said the chief.
