This has been described from the vast agribusiness opportunities in the county varying from best soil, agricultural industries, availability of markets and developed infrastructure.

Speaking to this writer in the lake side city of Kisumu, Gordon Obado, a member of National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) encouraged Kisumu County residents to make good use of such opportunities to exploit all the relevant avenues in achieving development.

Obado said that soil fertility within Kisumu County is capable of fighting food insecurity frequently experienced in the county. He also maintained that the availability of Kisumu International Airport can be used by the residents to export their farm produce abroad which will not only boost the counties revenue but also their economic standards.

He lamented that the airport is mostly used by residents from other regions since Kisumu county residents have not realized the importance using the facility.

On the other hand, Obado advised farmers to join various Saccos as a way of strengthening their agricultural activities. He said that such Saccos can provide funds to uplift them from small scale farming commonly practiced in the county.

He said that despite the effort being put by agricultural officers in educating the residents on the best farming methods, the overall harvest in Kisumu County is still wanting and cannot help in eliminating the resistant food insecurity.

Obado has also advised the County government of Kisumu to invest more on agribusiness by allocating adequate budgeting for the agriculture department.
