Kisumu County Police Commander John Kamau has urged residents of the County living within the Kisumu – Kericho border to report cases of cattle rustling in order to foster peace within the border.
Addressing residents of Chemelil on Saturday, Kamau said security officers have a duty to ensure peace and safety of the public.
“We are here to serve you, but you must be willing to help us by reporting people who engage in cattle rustling. No tribe engages in rustling, it is the people,” he said.
His sentiments were echoed by Kisumu County Commissioner Pauline Dola.
Dola said chiefs and assistant chiefs must up their operations in a bid to foster peace and security between residents of Kisumu and their colleagues in Kericho and Nandi.
“All chiefs in this region must get intelligence information and pass it to D.O’s so that proper action can be taken to prevent anything bad from happening,” she said.
Political leaders in Kisumu, Nandi and Kericho counties have in the recent past joined hands to sensitize residents on the importance of peaceful co-existence.
