Residents and traders at Laini Saba area have expressed fears over a sewage that passes through the market.

Speaking on Wednesday morning, the residents said that they are worried of an epidemic and called upon the relevant authorities to take action against tenants and traders whom they accused of channelling the sewage to the market drainage systems that later block the water channels.

"Once it rains, some tenants channel sewage water into drainage water systems that navigate through this market hence producing a foul smell. We are not safe not at all, action needs to be taken against tenants who channel sewage wastes into the drainage systems passing through the market," said Alice Teya, a trader at the market.

Doreen Otete, another trader also said that once it rains, the market gets flooded since the drainage systems block and sewage floods all over the ground making foul smells all over.

Angeline Mwangi, a resident expressed her fear over the state of the market saying that diseases such as cholera could arise anytime.
