The residents claim that the MCAs’ request is led by selfish and personal interests and that they are keen to promote their safety while many locals are not secure.

Kelvin Kurigat, a water vendor in Nakuru, expressed anger and disappointment at the request, saying that they should set their priorities right.

“It’s unfortunate that MCAs want to be given guns for their security yet our own safety has not been guaranteed,” he said.

Kurigat further accused MCAs of failing to address the problem facing the common Kenyan and only spearheading their personal interests.

Monicah Mungai, a salon owner told our reporter that MCAs are out to ensure their personal gains at the expense of the people they represent. She asked the MCAs to address security concerns of residents before thinking of their own interests.

Mungai further asked the MCAs to formulate policies that will improve service delivery instead of thinking of their own issues.

The MCAs through the county majority leader Samuel Waithuki said that they need guns since the rate of crime targeting VIPs had increased in the county.

They claimed that some people are jealous of them and will do anything to harm them, hence the need to get armed.
