Kaptwembwa residents have appealed to the county government to help in the fencing and rehabilitation of the area police post.
The residents pointed out that the station was in deplorable conditions forcing offenders to live in an inhumane manner.
Speaking during the launch of Jamii Thabiti initiative that advocates for community policing in Nakuru on Thursday, residents also lamented the station is too small to handle the high number of criminals arrested daily.
They want the facility fenced.
The cells, which cannot hold more than 15 inmates are dirty and too tiny, they said.
It also lacks toilets and a bathing area hence leading to stinking of the facility.
Both the Kenya Police and the National flag flying outside the facilities are in tatters.
“It’s unfortunate that prisoners and police share the same toilets. It’s degrading to them and can also breed unwarranted diseases,” said Jane Mukami.
Peter Mwaura said the upsurge in crime in the area has forced police to often resort to using their own private means to arrest the culprits.
Area OCS Jane Thoita promised the residents adequate security despite the conditions they worked in.
“We will continue serving the residents and ensuring that they get the proper government services as we await for the upgrading of the station,” she added.
Jamii Thabiti is a project of Midrift Agencies and seeks to boost campaigns on improved security in the area.
