Ikinu chief, Amos Kamau, has applauded residents for their efforts in fight against illicit brew and drug abuse in the area.

Speaking on Thursday at Ikinu Trading center during a campaign against alcohol and drug abuse, Kamau said that the provincial administration in collaboration with local residents has helped in the reduction of the vice.

“Anti-drug abuse facilitators have played a great role in alcohol and drug abuse prevention at grass root levels,” said Kamau .

The chief said that the provincial administration had initiated requisite structural programmes to curb the menace.

“We have engaged skilled counselors to mentor youth and the response has been positive,” said Kamau .

However the administrator acknowledged the campaign has faced numerous challenges .

“There has been inadequate coordination from members of families whose youth are engaging in drug abuse,” said Kamau.

The chief also said that his office has limited financial resources to facilitate public awareness .

Kamau urged those parents not coordinating with provincial administration to support the anti-drug abuse drive and reflect on the reality that alcohol and drug abuse cause on society's most basic unit – the family.

The administrator called all the stakeholders and parents to work together to achieve the vision of a nation from from alcohol and drugs.
