Speaking on Thursday in Makongeni during a clean up campaign initiated by Thika MP Alice Ng'ang'a, Hussein said the directive will ensure that the environment remains clean.

"The garbage bags are good as they can be collected on a weekly basis unlike the permanent stone dump bins that are only emptied after filling up thus causing health risks," said Hussein.

The MCA also noted that the completion of Kang'ooki dumpsite which is currently under construction, will greatly ease the problem of waste disposal and management in the area.

Hussein also urged residents to clear thickets surrounding their houses saying they act as hide-outs of disease spreading agents.

"Many houses here are entirely surrounded by tall grass and other plants. Let's clear them and empty stagnant water near our houses to stay free from diseases," she said.
