Carwash residents in Kisumu’s Migosi estate have been asked to mind hygiene when exhausting their sewage septic tanks.

Area Member of County Assembly Paul Achayo noted that the manner in which the residents emptied their septic tanks was unhygienic and unhealthy to both animals and residents.

Speaking on Sunday during a church service at Migosi, Achayo said that the residents normally empty their full sewerage septic tanks into dug and open gallows.

“I have noticed that most landlords empty the sewerage into open gallows then leave the waste to flow freely in the area. This is really unhygienic and I want to call upon the residents to embrace sanity and do what is environmentally acceptable,” said Achayo.

The MCA asked challenged the residents to embrace better ways of disposing off the sewerage rather than causing environmental pollution in the area.

He asked the landlords and land owners to engage the services of Kisumu Water and Sewerage Company (Kiwasco) when emptying their septic tanks.

“Let us engage the services of Kiwasco so that the sewerage can be emptied in a more hygienic and sane way to avoid environmental pollution that could cause harm to our children health wise.”
