Nyanza Regional Police Coordinator Charles Narangwi has asked the lakeside city’s slum dwellers to provide information to the police concerning criminals within them.

Narangwi cautioned the slum dwellers that action could be taken against them for inhibiting justice from taking place and being accomplices to crime.

“We have slums such as Obunga, Nyalenda and Manyatta which are crime prone areas. We have information that dwellers from these areas know the criminals who are involved in drug trafficking, theft, carjacking and even those who normally commit petty offenses,” said Narangwi.

During a press brief at his office on Wednesday, the police boss cited the rising cases of crime in Kisumu’s slums and urged residents to help the police curb the vice.

“We need to provide names of those engaging in criminal activities to the police irrespective of relationship between you and the said suspects,” said Narangwi.

“Residents keep complaining to the police about their insecurity yet they are good at shielding those who are creating then same insecurity. Let us learn the importance of living in a just society and teach our children and even the youth the significance of creating that security that we all need,” he added.
