The residents said since gambling machines were allowed by the local government administrators last year, the number of youths dropping school has risen.
Wilson Obutu, a resident said over 50 youths dropped school last year due to the gambling games.
“The gambling machines have made many children lazy leading to school dropouts. Theft cases are on the rise in the area. Chiefs should make sure school going children are not allowed to participate in gambling businesses,” he said.
Igonga primary head teacher Silvanus Ong’uti said the gambling machines are placed on the sides of the roads making it for pupils to participate.
“Concentration of pupils in a class is poor because most of the time they are thinking of the gambling machines. The gambling business should be declared illegal for our children to concentrate in their studies,” said Ong’uti.
