More than 300 residents and bodaboda operators from Ol Rongai in Nakuru on Thursday held a demonstration against Rongai MP Raymond Moi over the poor state of roads in the area.
The angry protesters chanting anti-Moi slogans barricaded Ol Rongai-Gwa Gitau road by felling trees using power saw and burning tyres paralysing the operations.
Police from Rongai station were left to be spectators overseeing the demonstration at periphery.
According to Gladys Ndirangu, Ol Rongai resident, the poor state of roads has resulted to women suffering citing three women has given birth on the road before reaching health facilities.
“I am a victim of giving birth on the road. It’s a shame that we are giving birth on the road due to poor state and we have elected leaders but they only give us empty promises,” she said.
Joseph Mbogo, a bodaboda operator decried that, the road has been in poor state for the last five years and they have been treated to promises without action. He pointed that, the poor state of road in the area has cost them dearly because when they cause an accident, they are forced to cater for medical bill for their passenger.
“We are tired of incurring cost and expenses due to the state of our roads while our leaders continue to treat us with their shenanigans,” Mbogo said.
Daniel Nyambati commended former President Daniel Moi citing that, during his reign the road was in good condition where it was repaired at least thrice a year but after Raymond Moi took over its status has changed.
“Raymond Moi has neglected us because the road is never graded or repaired hence incurring motorists, farmers and residents losses and pain during their travel.” Nyambati said.
The residents also did not spare county government lead by Kinuthia Mbugua citing they have done little to improve feeder roads.
“Our feeder roads are in poor condition and the county government continues to siphon the public money instead of offering services to taxpayers,” Nyambati added.
