A section of locals in Pioneer estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town have expressed concerns over an increased number of roaming stray dogs in the residential area.
This has also been a concern to some of the businesspersons in the area as well who fear being exposed to the risk of contracting rabies.
"I usually open my business at 6.30 am and the first thing I meet with are dogs, which are usually roaming aimlessly around my shop," said Moses Kipchumba, a businessman.
He lamented that the dogs have also scared his customers.
“This stray dogs are very wild and keep barking at my customers when I try to chase them they flee and return again," added the frustrated trader.
Juliet Kimani, a mutura vendor protested that dogs were giving her sleepless nights saying, "these dogs at one point ran after me and bite me on the leg since I never knew the owner I had to seek medical attention with my own cash."
"Most of these dogs usually gather around a dumpsite that is near Sosiani River but would later roam around the estates," she added
The traders and locals now want the County government of Uasin Gishu to poison all the roaming dogs because they were bound to cause more harm.
They threatened to take unspecified action should the county government fail to act on their concerns.
