Several residents of Nyamira County have raised their concerns about the state of the morgue facility of the county’s largest public hospital.
Led by a group of youth from Nyakeore, West Mugirango constituency yesterday, they claimed the mortuary was poorly equipped leading to a pile up of decomposing of bodies preserved in the facility.
“As you can smell, there is a bad odor coming from inside and this has made it impossible for us to remove a group member who passed on,” said Ombogo Gechanga, Chairman of Nyakeore youth group during the pick up of a group member John Onkoba who died recently.
They said the situation was deteriorating since many people who lose their loved ones preferred facilities in Kisii County rather than the health facility in the county.
“If this situation persists, the number of people taking their loved ones to mortuaries in Kisii town instead of doing the business in our county will increase. As much as talking of death is a sad thing, it’s however inevitable, therefore, we have to ensure our economy gains.
They urged the county leadership to intervene and rectify the situation as soon as possible to restore confidence of area residents.
“We know that the county government is able to rectify this menace. I call up on them to chip in and help our health facility. It will be vital since they will be able to restore our lost confidence in their leadership too,” he said.
