Naivasha residents have threatened to hold demonstrations if police will not intensify night patrols to assure them of their security.
This comes after a wave of smuggling and theft hit the area in the recent past but the security seem not to swing into action to avert the situation.
A group of youth has allegedly come out to harass unsuspecting pedestrians from as early as 9pm and snatch their wallets, phones and other valuables.
“A majority of us come from work late and have to walk home but then, this issue of being attacked has become too much!” lamented Grace Cheptoo, a local supermarket cashier who was attacked on Wednesday night on her way home.
The affected are mostly workers from supermarkets, warehouses, go-downs and wholesale shops in Naivasha Town. They argue that the culprits are young boys who do not want to work hard to earn a living.
“Most of them spent time playing pool and drinking at different back street joints within town,” John Wekhulo, who was attacked at the gate of their plot on Thursday night said.
“They are so daring. How can you attack somebody at 8:30pm surely? They are young boys who either know you well or monitor your moves for time before laying ambush,” he added.
They have called on the police to increase the number of officers on night patrol in the area as a whole lest the situation goes out of hand.
