Residents of Boiyeki location have raised concern over an increase of incidents where the locals are taking the law into their own hands.
They are worried that anyone can be accused and the locals can act without mercy and may lead to the death of even the innocent individuals.
This is after an elderly woman was burnt to death yesterday following allegations of witchcraft.
“We may see it as justifiable but those where allegations. What will you do if the same happens to you? We are now worried about our safety especially the old,” said Margret Monyaka.
Another resident has decried saying the authorities have slept on their job.
“We have had cases of women especially the elderly being targeted and killed following allegations of witchcraft," said Susan Atieno.
"The same has been happening and no legal action is taken. They continue with the same because there is no one to stand in their way," she added.
They now want legal action taken against those who perpetuated the act to serve as an example.
“We are taking this matter lightly yet it is very serious suppose one accuses you of being a witch due to personal differences. You are most likely to be killed innocently,” said Martha Nyaboke.
They now want the county government to take legal action against the perpetrators and call for the protection of all persons.
