Molo residents are living in fear following increased cases of rape and defilement on the aged and children.
This comes after a recent incident where a class-seven pupil was attacked and defiled by unknown people in Nakuru county's Moto Farm Molo on Friday.
According to residents, the perpetrators are still at large following what they termed as a lapse in security. They accused the police of failing in their duties.
“These cases are on the rise and we are yet to see any action taken against the perpetrators. This is the third case now in a span of two weeks and we are yet to see the culprits brought to book,” Moses Murugami, a resident and a security agent said.
According to residents who came to the scene, the victim was walking home from school when she was attacked and defiled, an incident that has left them in utter shock.
“I had just arrived home early in the evening when I was notified of an incident near my place. I went out to check only to find the girl lying unconscious and several people were now gathered to help. She was thereafter rushed to the hospital by well wishers. These cases are on the rise and we are also living in fear especially for our children,” said area resident Alice Kimani.
Nyumba Kumi chairman Nick Njoroge called for speedy investigations to arrest of the culprits and curb any further likelihood of such crimes in the future.
“I urge the police and other security organs to beef up security and expedite investigations to bring suspects to book. These cases have been on the rise and the law should be passed to include rape and defilement as capital offences or introduce harsh penalties to those found guilty of the crime,” Mr Njoroge said.
