Kiamaina residents have urged the county government to install security flood lights in the sprawling slum.
The residents say the installation of high-mast flood lights will help in improving security in the area.
Speaking at Kiamaina shopping centre during a collection of public views on how to improve security in the slum on Monday, David Mwangi, the chairman of Nyumba Kumi Initiative said that the lighting project would stem the rampant cases of crime.
He said that with the erection of 30-meter high posts would weed out crimes at night.
“We want the county government to install high-masts flood lights to improve security,” said Mwangi.
He however admitted that the rate of crime has fallen tremendously due to public awareness touching on crime matters.
“Nyumba Kumi has greatly contributed to low-levels of crime. I am now witnessing two cases of crime as opposed to 20 cases a week a few months ago,” said Mwangi.
Mwangi called on the Kiamaina residents to cooperate in enhancing security in the slum.
“Everyone has a responsibility to contribute to the improvement of our security,” said Mwangi.
He also said that the flood lights programme would promote business activities in the slum.
“The lamps will enable traders to extend to late hours without fear of insecurity,” said Mwangi.
