While speaking in his office today, Kiambu OCPD, Stephen Ng’etich said cases that involved abusive language and those that were used to threaten others were on the increase.

He  warned members of the pubic not to misuse mobile phones as such cases will be dealt with in accordance with the law. The  OCPD  advised the residents to use other relevant ways to solve issues as most of them were driven by anger and frustrations without knowing that they were committing a crime.

“If one has offended you, don’t send them threats or even abusive messages, report the matter to the police and it will be handled accordingly.” said Mr. Ng’etich.

He  said women were notorious on doing so because most  of  them overreact when they disagree with someone, saying the law applied to everybody both men and women, and they should not think that they will be spared if they insulted anyone.

In the last two weeks, four women were arraigned in court and were separately charged with misusing a communication gadget.

In  a similar case, last week, a woman was arraigned in court for insulting another for cheating with her husband. She  was accused of having sent a message to the complainant in which she called her names. The message was used against her in the court as evidence.

The woman however pleaded guilty and pleaded for leniency, saying she did not know it was a criminal offence.

She vowed never to repeat the offence in future. The Principle Magistrate, Diana Mochache found her guilty and fined her Shs. 3,000 in default to serve three months imprisonment.
