Residents of Maseno in Kisumu County have been cautioned against against erecting speed humps on roads as they lack the expertise to do so.
West Karateng location Chief Nicholas Toro said those who construct and repair roads know where bumps should be installed as it is their work.
"Road contractors have the knowledge about where to put humps, so kindly do not teach them their job, or do their job. We should respect each others responsibility," said Toro.
Toro said that some of the bumps erected by residents pose a major risk to motorists as they are placed in undesignated areas and also placed wrongly.
"Many motorists have come to my office complaining about poorly erected speed bumps that are destroying their vehicles everytime they encounter them.Some of this bumps have be placed in areas where they are not supposed to be causing more inconvenience," said Toro.
Toro urged residents to consult with the relevant authorities whenever they feel that certain areas need to be installed with bumps, where experts will be brought in.
Toro who speaking at baraza in Maseno on Monday said all illegally erected bumps will be removed with immediate effect.
He added that residents should know that illegally erected bumps pose a greater risk compared to when they don't exist.
"In the future, if we found anybody erecting a speed pumps, we will simply ask him or her to prove that they are qualified for such jobs, if there is no proof then law will take its course," added Toro.
