Speaking on Thursday in a 'baraza', area chief Dan Osiemo said the killer snake had been seen in a number of occasions and even reportedly killed two goats belonging to a resident.

He said the owner of the goats, James Angwenyi, had reported the incident, in which preliminary investigations shows that the animals were bitten by a sharp object, suspected to be jaws of the cobra.

“It is now dangerous to fetch water from Mwaito. If you decide to do so, do it at your own risk. In a number of occasions, a few of you have seen a cobra which is not only perilous to human life but also our animals,” Osiemo said.

“It will be quite absurd if we do not take a precaution on this serious matter. From today, no child will be allowed to access the place till we find an amicable solution perhaps by enjoining the government,” he added.

According to him, Kenya Wildlife Service officers have been contacted and programmes were in place to take the cobra to their custody for the sake of protecting area residents.

“I have reached the KWS officials but before they come, everyone ought to comply with what I have said,” the officer added.
