A section of Kaptembwa residents today (Friday) volunteered to clean their Estate to make it clean and avoid outbreak of diseases.
The residents led by Joyce Atieno said that they are overwhelmed by large wastes that is strewn a long the Estate's feeder roads.
“Neighbouring residents dump waste anyhow in the Estate, a situation that is likely to cause a health crisis for us,” said Atieno.
She said that the residents have volunteered to supplement what the county government is doing in the garbage collection department.
“Kaptembwa Estate is fast-growing and more tenants are flowing into this Estate complicating waste management and it is surely a difficulty exercise for us to maintain cleanliness as it was before,” said Atieno.
“We have devised ways to help the county government in collection of waste by volunteering to collect the waste and burn them,” added Atieno further calling on the residents to pile waste in one place to allow easy collection.
Atieno urged residents to join hands together to clear waste that has not been collected as it poses health crisis.
“We have to do everything to clear loads of garbage before heavy rain sets to prevent water borne disease,” said Atieno.
During today's cleaning, more than 10 residents participated in the exercise with a call to make environment clean.
Atieno further urged neighbouring Estates of Ponda Mali, Rhoda and London to follow suit and make their Estates clean.
