Residents in Nakuru West Sub County have lauded the county security team for coming up with an online security strategy in a bid to boost security.
The residents on Monday said the initiative dubbed Mulika Uhalifu would go a long way in enhancing their safety since security officers could now be reached easily.
Brian Ongwae a resident of Kaptembwa said that the initiative was quite timely and effective and expressed optimism that the constant night raids by criminals in the area would ebb.
"I must say the county security team has done a commendable job in by launching this mulika uhalifu platform. With police officers only an SMS away I believe we will now enjoy some semblance of tranquility here," he said.
His sentiments were echoed by Jane Khaoya a clothes trader at the Weavers centre who claimed that in the past reaching security officers was cumbersome but with the new system things would be all rosy now.
On Wednesday, the county security team headed by County commissioner Joshua Nkanatha unveiled the mulika uhalifu system to help coordinate security operations and enhance accountability within the county.
Residents are required to report any cases of breach of security through a short message to the number 22068 starting with the county name after which the message will be relayed to 50 security personel including the deputy county commissioner and respective OCPDs who will in turn organise the response to the situation.
Grace Wanjohi the brainchild behind the innovation said that the anonymity of the sender of the message would be guaranteed by the machine.
