This comes after 185 bags of contaminated sugar was nabbed in a Kisii Supermarket on Monday.

The residents led by Jubilee party youth secretary general Isaac Motari said the government should do everything possible to end illegal trade.

“The government’s efforts to end illicit trade not only in Kisii but across the country must be commended. Selfish individuals pretending to be business people to sell fake products must be arrested and prosecuted,” he said.

Motari urged police officers in the county to ensure they are working around the clock, closely with locals to flush out cartels who may be about to sell fake sugar among other contaminated products to residents.

Stella Kwamboka, a shopkeeper at Daraja Mbili said kiosk owners must not accept rogue suppliers to supply fake products to sell.

“We must step up efforts to help the government tame illicit trade. The health of our customers must also be taken into account to ensure the products we are selling to them for consumption are safe, free from contamination,” she noted.
