Residents of Gishi location in Muchatha, Kiambaa have decried increased theft of their cattle in the last two weeks.
The angry residents talking to the press on Tuesday said that in the last two weeks, more than 15 of their cows have been stolen and slaughtered.
The latest wake of events has led them to live in fear of losing everything seeing that Karuri Police Station officers have done nothing to help them despite having reported the matter there on several occasions.
"The thieves seem to be very weird as when they come at night no dogs bark and neither do cows mow when being taken away," said Francis Ndirangu, one of the victims.
The residents now suspect that the theft is being carried out by recently released jailbirds from the area.
"We want our chief to investigate those men, he knows them. When they were not here such things were not happening," said another resident who asked not to be named for fear of being victimised.
Mary Wanjiku, whose pregnant cow was slaughtered and the unborn calf thrown in the bush, said that the thieves might have come during a heavy downpour at night as the following day she found the shed empty.
