Kibera residents are bitter following scattered garbage in Sarangombe Ward.

In a complaint letter to Sarangombe MCA Pius Otieno, the residents urged the county government of Nairobi to intervene and remedy the situation. They also lamented that if nothing is done soon, they will start contracting diseases such as cholera.

A Kibera resident Jack Ouma said that he found his children playing with the garbage and he fears that this garbage will cause them to contract diseases.

“It is a scary situation because when we leave for work, we are not sure if our children will be safe as they may go to play with the garbage,” he said.

Another resident Nelly Moraa said that unless the City County of Nairobi addresses the situation, she fears that the entire Sarangombe area will be full of garbage.

The National Youth Service youth who were contracted to work in the Kibera slum stopped their duties after violent youth burnt down a toilet that they had constructed in June protesting alleged corruption at the Ministry of Devolution with regards to the NYS.
