The residents of Kisumu County have questioned the credibility of Kisumu Water and Sewerage Company (KIWASCO) following the continued water shortage in the region.
In an interview with a HiviSasa writer, residents from Migosi and Lolwe estates complained of periodical and continued water shortage that had paralyzed households and businesses.
Last week, water was opened to flow out of supply pipes in Migosi, Lolwe and Kondele areas with the company claiming it was meant for cleaning the supply pipes.
One of the company’s personnel unwilling to disclose his name said the company was also unblocking and replacing old supply pipes which had contributed to the shortage.
“We have opened running water to clean the pipes. So let this not be a big story. We are KIWASCO and we are here to solve this,” the officer said.
Billing has also been an issue of concern with most residents complaining that the amounts they are asked to pay is ridiculous.
“Whether I use water or not the bill will be constant. When I left my house for my one month holiday, a short message was sent to me to make payment of Sh422 to the company yet no one was using the water,” said Kirui Bett, a Maseno University student residing in Lolwe.
