Members of the public in Kisumu reacted angrily after a stray lion was shot dead by a game warden at Isinya, Kajiado town.
The stray lion was spotted along the Isinya-Kiserian road. It took more than five hours to kill it after attempts by the Kenya Wildlife Service to capture the animal failed.
The lion fell after being hit with numerous bullets with police having a hectic time to control the huge crowed of Maasai morans who were charging towards the lion armed with swords and spears.
Nominated Senator Harold Kipchumba termed it as ‘protector turn hunter’.
“How does an institution mandated to protect our wildlife kill them while they could sedate it for transfer. A sign of a failing state and a bad example of how to manage situations. Bure kabisa KWS,” said Kipchumba.
Enoch Ochere said if the encroaching of forests and parks continue, the development of infrastructure in parks interfering with animals natural habitats, soon enough the wild animals will flock to the city asking questions why that had to happen.
“In a not so polite way several human beings will be devoured. A nation that cares less about its flora and fauna will still fail,” said Ochere on face book.
