Residents of Kithimani Ward in Yatta sub-county on Tuesday took matters into their own hands and built speed bumps on the Kithimani-Machakos road.
The proactive residents led by Joseph Mutinda an area businessman erected 3 bumps following increased accidents most of which are hit and run cases.
"We have been calling upon the county government to construct bumps on the Makutano-Kithimani road but nothing has been done apart from accidents every day," said Mutinda.
According to the area residents, there have been more than five accidents on the road which have left four people.dead in the past two months.
"School children cross on the same section of the road with the risk of overspeeding vehicles hitting them," he added.
However, the area residents have called upon the county government to take drastic measures so as to ensure quality and professional bumps construction.
The 33KM road built under Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has raised a lot of criticism on its quality since its completion.
