Led by Guticha MCA Mohamed Ibrahim Yussuf, the residents lamented over the destructions and lives lost that the wild animals have caused in the area in the past years.

Mr. Yussuf said families who lost their breadwinners through wildlife attacks are suffering as the government is yet to compensate them.

Speaking in Mandera town over the weekend, the MCA said the government needs to come to the rescue of victims of the human-wildlife conflict who require specialised treatment but lack funds.

Mr. Yussuf further said the area residents have lost their crops and livestock which is their only source of livelihood.

He said the residents have been approved to receive compensation from KWS but the government is yet to start the process of compensating the residents who have been affected by wildlife activities.

“Most of the affected families in Mandera are suffering because of the long time the Kenya Wildlife Service is taking to compensate them for damages caused.”

“Some families lost their loved ones to snake bites, lion and hyena attacks over five ago but they are yet to be compensated despite having been approved for the same,” said the MCA as quoted by Daily Nation.

Mr. Yussuf also called on KWS to come up with measures of controlling human-wildlife conflicts in Mandera including fencing of Malkamari Game Reserve and trapping all wildlife and confining them in the game reserve.
