The residents say that the action was uncalled for and was in bad faith.

Speaking on Sunday at Kiambu Town, the furious residents said that the country is creeping back to the era of dictatorship.

Raphael Wambugu, a trader at Kiambu Town says the move would cripple their businesses.

“Our businesses are boosted by TVs shows. Customers come to watch news, sports and for entertainment,” said Wambugu.

He says due to the shutdown of analogue broadcasting, their businesses have declined.

“When customers come to watch TV, they ask for refreshments and food,” said Wambugu who owns a hotel in the town.

According to Jane Wanjiku, a resident, the country is in darkness.

“We do not know what is happening in the country and the rest of the world,” said Wanjiku.

The residents say that they have the right to information and urged the government to reverse the move as the country is not prepared to digital broadcasting due to shortage of manpower.

On Saturday, the government through the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) switched off analogue broadcasting.

CA has defended the move saying that the migration from analogue to digital is in line with the authority's policies to keep abreast with other countries which are on the digital platform.
