Residents and drivers from Kangundo in Machakos County have protested over the deplorable state of Kangundo-Mwala Road.
The protesters' spokesman, David Mutisya, said leaders used the road as a campaign tool during the last general elections and nothing has been done to improve since then.
Mutisya said the road is in a pathetic state with lots of potholes thereby hampering transport.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta last year August told us he will tarmac the road within no time but now its a year down the line and nothing has been done, the governor too promised to tarmac it but it has remained to be a promise awaiting fulfillment," Mutisya said.
He addressed the press during the protests in Kangundo on Tuesday.
Mutisya said drivers are forced to use a long way to connect the two sub-counties.
"Vehicles are forced to pass through Kakuyuni-Kikomba, Kivani then to Mwala which is a long way," Mutisya said.
He urged area MP Fabian Muli and his Mwala counterpart Vincent Musau to come out and address the issue with the national government to ensure the road is tarmacked.
The residents had threatened to stage demos if the road isn't tarmacked earlier this year stating that they are not getting value for their tax.
