The residents have complained that cases of people being mugged and robbed of their valuables have gone up. Some of the muggings, the residents claim, are happening in broad daylight, a situation they said has created fear especially among business people.

Nancy Ochuondho, a business woman at Keringet trading centre says that an alleged group of criminals is terrorising residents.

“We are living in fear of being mugged and robbed by a group of criminals. The police are not addressing our complaints,” she said.

She alleged that at least five cases of people being mugged and robbed at gunpoint have been reported in the past three weeks.

Nicholas Muia, a barber at the centre said that the muggings are even happening during the day.

He said they are being forced to close down business early in the evening to avoid falling victims to the alleged criminals.

Area youth leader Moses Tanui said they have registered their complaints with the police and are waiting for their action. He appealed for more security measures to ensure safety of residents.
