The residents who spoke to this writer on Friday said they were disappointed with Kenya Power for the blackout they claimed posed insecurity to the entire region.

“We are wondering why the entire town can have power blackout the whole night, this is disastrous,” said Josephine Mueni.

Ms Mueni said it is unfair for the power provider to let the industrial town be out of power for a whole night.

She claimed there was no notice from the company indicating there would be power rationing.

James Oloo, an employee of an industrial company within the town retaliated that the blackout interfered with their operations in the night.

“We are very unhappy as casuals at the company, lack of power made us not work at night. We will not get our wages for the lost time since we only get paid for the hours we work,” said Oloo.

Samson Ndunda, a welder at Athi River town said power had not fully resumed at his work shop that is located few meters from Rhino Cement Company.

Ndunda said electricity was still dim by the time the writer was publishing the story and he was unable to conduct his daily businesses.

He said he had lost valuable time and clients hence called on Kenya Power to check on all their lines within the town to end the stalemate.
