Residents in Raitigo, Esise location Borabu constituency have decried the increases cases of cattle rustling after a secondary school student was shot with arrows on Sunday night in a cattle theft bid at their home.

The form three students, Wycliffe Masese sustained injuries on the face and back when the rustlers stormed his father’s home on Sunday night and drove away 10 heads of cattle.

Area national administration and security apparatus including Anti Stock theft Unit, regular police and administration police responded to the residents’ distress call and recovered the cows at Kipsgei forest.

The student said that he had dogs barking and he went out at around 11 pm he was shot by the rustlers.

Jackson Masese the owner of the stolen livestock said they were awakened by the barking of the dogs before the rustlers who were about 15 wrecked havoc in their house, raiding the cow pen in the process.

According to Masese, similar incidents had been witnessed two months ago when the animals were traced to Mogul across the border but the administrators dragged their feet in handing them over to owners.

Raitigo Assistant chief, Josephine Oange decried increasing cases of cattle thefts forcing the residents to keep night vigils beside impoverishing them.

She, however, commended the security personnel and the residents for their quick action to trace and recover the animals.

James Mochama ,a neighbor to the victim attributed the rustling to unemployment on either side of the border among others.

He claimed for the last three months,50 heads of cattle had been stolen from the area.

But Benjamin Ombati, a resident who participated in the recovery efforts blamed the county and national government administration in for failure to craft interventions.

Ombati lamented they risked their lives at night when the rustlers pounced and petitioned President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy to visit the troubled area and chart the way forward.
