Residents of Masagege Makara South Mugirango Kisii County have raised alarm over the increased theft of goats in the area.
Locals said a strange probox car has been going round the village which they suspect is being used to ferry the stolen goats.
Led by Dickson Mokwanyi, the residents said they will be more vigilant to protect their livestock.
"Thieves have been using a probox car to steal the goats in broad daylight. Any strange vehicle that will be seen around will not be spared until we know who is behind the theft of the animals,” said Mokwanyi.
He said the thieves have been targeting goats tied by the roadside and bushy areas to graze.
He warned villagers against leaving their goats at bushy areas and grazing field up to late hours in the evening.
“Villagers should take their goats for grazing in areas not far from their homesteads because the thieves are targeting the goats tied on the roads and bushy areas for grazing, he added.
Another reside Justine Nyabuto called on police officers to boost security in the region to arrest the criminals.
"Police should step up efforts to ensure stealing of livestock in the area is fought to end," he said.
