Residents have decried increased human, wildlife conflict in Yatta, Machakos County.
The Kwa Ndolo village locals urged Kenya Wildlife Services to restrain a hippopotamus that has been troubling them in the region.
Their spokesman Simon Katema said the hippo has a calf and is very notorious.
Katema said their efforts to drive away the animal have bore no fruits since it is wild hence charges at them whenever they try to push it out of their residences.
"The hippo is aggressive because it has a calf, we are unable to drive it away. We are just counting losses day in day out," Katema said.
They addressed the press in Yatta on Thursday.
Katema said the animal has for the past three weeks wrecked havoc in their farms by devouring their crops.
"This animal is trying to eat the remaining crops in our farms after others were carried away by flash floods," Katema said.
The residents now want the Kenya Wildlife Service to move swiftly and find a way of controlling the beast before it renders residents without food.
